Our Favourite Attractions

Warkworth Castle with its magnificent cross shaped keep and spectacular views is open to the public to explore its fascinating architecture or just imagine life as a King or Queen. A half mile boat trip down the river to the Hermitage, a religious building carved out of the rock and said to be the private chapel of the First Earl of Northumberland is a fascinating experience. Only accessible via boat, the Hermitage is a tranquil, peaceful location to take in the surroundings and discover more about this intriguing landmark.

Amble, a mile away from Warkworth, is also situated on the Northumberland coast at the mouth of the River Coquet. Locally sourced fresh fish are sold from harbourside locations and there is an excellent Sunday market held throughout the year as well as a wide selection of restaurants serving popular cuisine. As a waterside location, activities in Amble include sailing, canoeing, kayaking and fishing. Coquet Island, a mile off the coast is home to more than 35,000 nesting birds and a seal colony. Designated a site of special scientific interest, boat trips to Coquet Island run daily from the harbour throughout the summer.
